Photos taken around christmas 1996 at the indonesian catholics student community in Berlin (a little background: They were so religiously tolerant that they even picked me, back then a buddhist, as their community vice leader).

The community celebrates christmas each year beginning with a long prepared mass, continued with a celebration in the church hall -open for everyone- with live songs, operette and disco. Well, that’s not what people typically do on christmas, namely gathering with the family. But hey, they are some 20 hours flight away from their indonesian homes. And there, friends are the family.

I had been taken black and white pictures for a few months and loved it so much that for the next 4 years I never touched color films anymore.
